Welcome to The Sound Room

This is the listening space for the raw and experimental music I create under my music alias, Ama Chuwaa aka Yema.

Ama Chuwaa is the nickname my Ghanaian father gave me, and I use it in his memory to honour my heritage, my roots and the heart behind my music creations.

I started singing and writing music in church when I was 10 years old, but for many years, I kept my music close after working with producers who exploited my desire to be heard.

During the pandemic, something shifted. I realised I did not want to leave this life with my music still locked inside me, waiting for someone else to give me permission.

So I chose myself

I learned how to create, record and release my music on my own terms.

The Sound Room is where that music now lives. It is soulful, emotional, imperfect, experimental and rooted in reclamation. The sound of a woman taking her voice back without asking the industry to approve the shape of it.

Listen while you write, rest, reflect, create, remember yourself, or simply sit with music that has lived through something and still chose to be heard.

This same journey also led me to help other music artists, writers, makers, and creative businesses create beautiful, intentional websites that showcase their work with more depth, polish, and soul.

For the artist who has been sitting on the songs, the maker who has outgrown a basic page, the writer who needs a home for their words, or the creative founder who knows their work deserves to be presented with more depth, beauty and strategy.

This is becoming part of my wider creative offering.
